This extremely rare bass is looking for its next owner to make room for some new favorites!
This awesome, Japanese-made bass dates back to the late 1970s. As you’d expect, the build quality is top-notch, with the stunning inlays and beautiful neck-through construction being the absolute highlights.
Please note: it is completely original! It came out of the factory exactly like this, featuring a Precision and a mudbucker pickup, combined with a Rickenbacker-style bridge. I thought it was worth mentioning, as it might look a bit like a mishmash of parts at first glance.
The "MPC" part refers to the onboard effects system, allowing you to plug effect modules directly into the back of the bass. Please note that these modules are not included.
On the condition:
I bought it in a relatively neglected state and have restored it to good working order. This means it is fully functional and ready to be played as a proper bass! The 5-way switch works perfectly, and I have wired the bass with one volume and one tone pot. The two bottom pots are currently just for decoration.
The MPC section itself is entirely intact, right down to the wires running to the control cavity, which have been neatly snipped. The most critical components are still there. To get the entire MPC circuit up and running again, you would just need to wire the switches and potentiometers according to the original schematic.
Furthermore, the mute on the bridge is unfortunately missing, and one screw is missing from the tailpiece. However, there is absolutely no tail-lift, which is a common issue with these types of Rickenbacker bridges. The lower frets show fretwear, but it doesn't affect playability at all.
It sounds absolutely incredible. The 5-way switch gives you options for series, parallel, both pickups individually, and both pickups out of phase. There are some great demos available on YouTube!
In short: a fantastic, ready-to-play bass as it is right now, or a wonderful project for someone looking to fully restore the MPC circuit!
Regarding the price: it’s very hard to put a value on this one. If someone makes an offer I’m happy with, I’ll let it go. If not, I'll gladly keep it. After all, it’s just stunning to look at...
