A piece of Japanese history is up for sale - a Fernandes Precision Bass (FPB-50) featuring the so-called Stone Logo, manufactured in the late 1970s. This era was characterised by an uncompromising selection of wood, and the FPB models were regarded as some of the most faithful replicas of the Precision Basses from that period. Fernandes guitars with this graphic on the headstock are the instruments that built the legend of Japanese copies.
The construction is based on a sen (ash) body. The neck is solid maple with a ‘skunk strip’, finished with a maple fingerboard featuring 20 frets. Despite the 42 mm nut width typical of a P-bass, the neck profile is quite slim (with oldschool 7.25” radius) and ergonomic - it doesn’t feel like you’re holding a ‘broomstick’. The whole thing weighs a manageable 4.3 kg.
Sonically, it’s pure vintage - plenty of low end and that characteristic ‘grit’, which sits perfectly in the mix. It currently has roundstrings, but it sounds great on flats too.
The technical condition is very good. The truss rod is fully functional and operates smoothly. The frets are high. The string action is set at 2–2.2 mm above the 12th fret. Visually, the bass has its own character – the Cream White finish has ‘matured’ beautifully and taken on an ivory hue. The body shows some scratches and dents due to its age, but there are no chips down to the bare wood. All hardware is original and works very reliably. For almost 50 years - as good as they get.
Can be viewed in Poznań (Poland) or shipped safely within the EU. Not interested in exchanges. Private sale.
