For sale: a “Frankenstein” jazz bass. The bass is from Japan; it has a maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard by LaidBack (a label brand of Shimamura Music, a major player in the Japanese musical instrument market), and a body that is clearly custom-made (likely alder), properly trued and fitted to the neck.
Someone converted it into a 5-string bass with a narrow string spacing, hence the additional notches on the nut, but I’ve reverted it to the 4-string version (Fender bridge) because the pickups are designed for that configuration. By the way, the pickups are very good (looks like from the Aria RS
, with a jazz bass character and a stronger low-end boost, paired with passive vol/vol/tone electronics (Gotoh B500 kΩ potentiometers—Made in Japan). The tone potentiometer is also push/pull (parallel/series pickup switching).
The bass is fully playable and sounds like a Jazz Bass, set up with new Warwick EMP strings.
I’m including a disassembled, extra tuning key (Gotoh) with the set.
