What do you get by crossing a Precision bass, a Stingray, a Jazz Bass, a Modulus, and underappreciation?
This - Peavey G-Bass.
Produced in the 90s, the G-Bass is one of the most original creations from the company in Meridian. It features a humbucker in the PB position, 3-band EQ, Gotoh hardware, and a 35-inch scale length. But the most important part is the neck – a carbon-graphite neck with an 8-inch radius and a jazz bass profile. Its dynamic shape and wild glittery finish complete the picture.
And what's the deal with the underappreciation? Well... in the 90s, Peavey made quite a few mistakes, the biggest likely being the move of a large part of production to Asia. By flooding the market with budget instruments, the company tarnished its decades-built reputation. Although USA-made Peaveys remained some of the best-crafted guitars, the brand's prestige suffered significantly. Only now are the old Peaveys regaining their deserved respect.
The bass being offered comes from the first wave of G-Basses – the ones with visible carbon fibers (later models had less impressive, uniformly black necks). According to some sources, the older necks were made by Modulus, although I more often encountered information that they were made by Bell & Carlson. Either way, the carbon neck is fantastic – straight, thin, and fast.
In terms of sound, the guitar somewhat resembles a Stingray with a hint of a P-Bass (or vice versa), offering a selective, modern, and edgy tone. The EQ is powered by two batteries, and the pickup is the Peavey active VFL – exactly the same as in the legendary Cirrus models.
The guitar is in very good condition - no dings or scratches, and the hardware looks and functions like new. The frets on the lower positions have slightly flattened but are high enough for a substantial re-dressing if needed. The action is set at 1.8mm above the 12th fret. The body shape allows for excellent access to higher positions, and the guitar weighs just 3.7 kg.
I'm selling it with a very solid, practically new hardshell case.
