For sale: Yamaha Motion B MB-75 – a lightweight Japanese medium-scale bass from the early '90s, in a honey-toned transparent finish that shows off the wood grain.
Motion B was Yamaha's medium-scale line, built since the mid-'80s. In 1992 the series was completely redesigned with PJ pickups, a TRB-style angled headstock, 22 frets and headstock-end truss rod access. The MB-75 was the top model of this generation. Unlike the cheaper MB-50 and MB-40, which moved to Yamaha's Taiwan factory, it was made in Japan.
Alder body with an arched top and belly cut. The neck is bolted to a contoured heel with two small plates instead of a standard neckplate, which gives easy upper-fret access. The upper horn reaches the 12th fret, so it balances like a Fender on a strap, with no neck dive. The maple neck with rosewood fingerboard is very slim: 38 mm nut, 18 mm string spacing, 820 mm (32") scale. It has a satin finish, so your hand never sticks, even on long gigs. Just over 3 kg.
Original Yamaha Alnico V PJ pickups with an active preamp (volume, balance, bass, treble). The tone is modern, hi-fi and springy, with a very strong output and plenty of boost on both lows and highs. Gotoh-made tuners and a solid bridge.
Condition is good-plus: a few isolated scratches (mostly on the back), some small dings, one finish chip on the lower horn, and natural patina on the gold hardware. Frets at about 80%, truss rod fully functional, straight neck, action 1.8–2 mm at the 12th fret. Gig bag included.
Private sale. The bass can be tried out in Poznań, Poland; safe shipping from Poland is no problem.
