This is one of the first Made in Korea Precision Basses (serial E07xxxx), probably 1985-7 but I'm not 100% sure. It is labelled as a Bullet Bass but it's nothing like the small bodied/Tele neck basses that were also sold as Bullets. This is a 100% Precision clone - rosewood fretboard, white pickguard, black body, single p-bass pickup. It's medium weight and very well balanced. The neck profile is a comfortable B profile, the edges are now well-broken in. Vintage-style fretwire. IMO, it's as well made as a similar era Japanese P-bass.
Sound : 8
* Likes and dislikes?
* How does it suit your music style (and what is that style)?
* What amps and effects are you using it with?
* Is it noisy? On what settings?
* Rich/Full sound? Dark sound? Warm sound? Bright sound?
* What kind of sounds can the bass make? How much variety?
* Is it noticeably better for the stage or the studio?
I have it set up with ground-rounds and it plays and feels great. It has the classic woody p-bass thump. It's not very versatile but for a p-bass clone it's very good. I'm playing basic cover-band blues and 60s rock and it's perfect.
If this bass becomes a keeper, I'll upgrade the pickup and hardware.
Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
* How well was the bass set-up at the factory? (How was the action?)
* How well were the pickups adjusted?
* Did the bass contain any flaws? (misaligned bracing, poorly filed fretwire, finish flaws, poor quality wood, rusted or oxidized hardware, loose tuning pegs, poorly cut nut, poorly fit saddle, noisy pickup selector, loose controls, etc...)
The action and bridge were really messed up when I got the bass but the bridge adjusts well and I had no problem getting it setup and intonated just right. The poly finish is showing it's age and there are two large finish cracks on the front of the guitar. No dings or chips are evident so I'm guessing that the finish has somehow "shrunk" - has any one else seen this?
Reliability/Durability : 9
* Will this bass withstand live playing?
* Does the hardware seem like it will last?
* Is the finish good enough to last, or does it seem thin and easy to wear off with lots of playing?
* Are the strap buttons solid?
* Can you depend on it? How often does the neck/truss rod need to be adjusted?
* Would you use it on a gig without a backup?
I'd play this live without even thinking about it - there's just not that much to go wrong. I bought it on eBay, took it apart, cleaned the electronics, levelled and polished the frets, put it back together again - so I'm pretty confident that this is a very solid gigging bass.
Customer Support : No Opinion
* If you've dealt with the company, how helpful/friendly were they?
* Ever try and get it repaired? Was it under warranty?
* How long is the warranty?
I've played Fenders 25 years and never had any reason to call them
Overall Rating : 10
* How long have you been playing? What other gear do you own?
* Is there something you wish you had asked before buying this bass?
* If it were stolen or lost, would you buy it again or get something else?
* What do you love about it? What do you hate? What is your favorite feature?
* Did you compare it to other basses? Which ones? Why did you choose this one?
* Anything you wish it had?
* Anything else you'd like to share?
One of my best eBay bargains! This bass has obviously not been played much and deserves to be someone's main gigging bass. If you upgraded the pickup and hardware you'd have a bass that would go toe-to-toe with any p-bass regardless of price.
und hier gibts noch einen in rot, auch mit großem headstock:
