A rare Japanese Fernandes MV-65NS - Nikki Sixx's signature model from Mötley Crüe - is up for sale. Made in Japan in the early 1990s.
Visually, it is an intriguing design. Although Fernandes was fond of Mockingbirds, this model is a completely different story - a cross between a Spector and a Thunderbird in a non-reverse version. It is sometimes called a Spectorbird for a reason.
It is an instrument created for uncompromising rock riffs, which is emphasised not only by its aggressive appearance, but also by its brass saddle and reverse Precision pickup (reverse P) at the neck. This arrangement makes the low strings sound cleaner and more defined, while the treble strings gain more bottom end. It is a passive instrument and does not have an amplified active signal, but it cuts through the guitars well.
The body is made of linden wood, and the neck features a rosewood fingerboard with a radius of 350R (almost flat). Considering its size, the bass is surprisingly light - it weighs exactly 4 kg and does not tire you out during longer playing sessions. It also does not dive on the strap. Importantly, the non-reserve shape makes the Fernandes comfortable to play while sitting. This is not always standard with such basses.
As for the visual condition, I won't sugarcoat it - the instrument must have been used on stage. The edges of the body have a lot of dents, and there are scratches on the front and back, although the Gotoh hardware still looks fresh. However, the technical condition is very good: frets, tuners, truss rod, electronics. The action is low and the neck is fast.
The bass comes with an original gig bag shaped to fit this unusual board - a rare find.
The bass can be played in Poznań, Poland, but secure shipping is also no problem. I'm not trading, I'm just reducing the number of instruments.
Let me know if you have any questions, I have samples and larger photos.
Private sale so no warranty, return etc.
