Meridian Aural II
This bass has been built around 2016 by Italian Luthier Davide Cardone with a great boutique craftsmanship.
Meridian is an Italian brand well-established in European bass instrument circles that takes a customized approach, using selected woods and out-of-the-box design.
This bass offers a wide tonal range with a fast attack combined with extraordinary sustain as well as an ergonomic design.
Because it sounds so good and plays so effortless it has been played a lot over the years and the bass had some minor signs of use (a few small dents in the body-wood), but was recently completely restored to it's former glory and I've added several high quality upgrades in the process.
The whole bass was sanded down to the bare wood (up to 2000grit) and then refinished with multiple layers of tru-oil,
making the natural beauty of the wood speak for itself.
The tuners were replaced with brand new Gotoh res-o-lites.The faulty pre-amp was replaced by a buffered Master volume + V/T + V/T circuit,
this gives you all the ease of a dual Volume/Tone layout,
but with the added advantage of the Bartolini AGDB/918-2 Dual Channel Adjustable Gain Buffer preventing the two circuits of interfering with eachother whilst keeping the signal clear and consistent.
All the parts used (Poti's, jack, …) are top of the line and even the new potti-knobs are from Gotoh.
The mini toggle switches the Bartolini bridge pickup between parallel/top single coil/series wiring.
The stainles steel frets are in perfect condition.
The bass was completely restored and upgraded in December 2025, so the overall condition is like new.
I am a guitar tech with more than 20years of experience, so this was not just "a project", but rather an attempt (and according to the people that have played this instrument so far I succeeded) to take an already exceptionally good sounding and playing boutique instrument and not only refresh it's looks by giving new life to the beautiful Brazillian Maple and Ovangkol, but also lifting it to an even higher level by adressing the few flaws this instrument had.
The slight neck-dive was completely resolved by replacing the tuners with the Gotoh Res-o-Lites and a small correction in the shape of the top of the headstock.
The Gregory pre-amp this came with had some issues, so this was replaced with a Bartolini AGDB/918-2 Dual Channel Adjustable Gain Buffer wired with master volume + V/T for each pickup + three way switch for the bridge pickup (coils in parallel/single coil/series).
This control lay-out gives you all the advantages of a buffered circuit whilst keeping the controls simple, yet effective, exactly as you would have on a passive bass.
The power usage of the Bartolini buffer is very low, so you only have to change the battery after more than two years even with regular use.
The barrel jack-type input jacks like the one that was originally installed are notorious for wearing out superfast and premature breaking, so I installed a "normal" Switchcraft TRS jack that doesnt wear out like the bus jacks do.
All the cavities were shielded and all the poti's, parts used are from Swithcraft, CTS, Orange drop and Gotoh.
The bass is set-up with a very nice playing, low action with no frerbuzz and is currently equipped with a fresh set of Fender 9050L flats on the EADG strings and a nicely matched d'Addario XL nickel roundwound .130 Bstring. This hybrid set gives you extreme flexibility and a smooth treblle respons on the higher strings whilst keeping the Low B tight and defined. Both tone, tension and volume are evenly matched between the strings and you really gotta play it to realise how good this combination sounds.
Once you get this bass in your hands you wont be able to put it down.
