I'm selling an Ibanez Roadstar II Deluxe 860 fretless bass guitar. Made in Japan, 1984 – the first version, with two passive, splittable Super J6 humbuckers.

Although it may seem simple at first glance, it offers enormous sonic possibilities. The controls are quite unusual: balance, volume, and tone. The two rear knobs have a push/pull function, which converts the humbuckers to single coils (leaving the lower coils active). As a result, the pickups can be set to HH, HS, SH, and SS, as well as blended freely. So, we have both a Jazz Bass sound and a passive Stingray. The latter is my favorite mode – set the rear pickup in the H position, and… you can pretend to be a Pino Palladino.

Like all RB Deluxes, the Ibanez is equipped with a heavy Accu-cast BII bridge (19mm spacing), solid ValveTune tuners, and a graphite saddle. The 860, like its fretless version, the RB850, has a small, rounded body, which inspired the Soundgear line released a few years later. However, the Roadstars had slightly thicker and wider necks than the SRs – 41mm at the nut and a D-shaped profile. Comfortable? In my opinion, yes, similar in dimensions to the classic Music Man. The fretless playability is enhanced by brights fretlines.

The weight, thanks to the basswood body, doesn't exceed 4 kg.

Technically, the bass is in very good condition – the hardware and electronics work perfectly, the truss rod is functional, and a few months ago, the fretboard was thoroughly sanded by a luthier. Visually the bass looks decent, although you can find lots of scratches and dots on the body against the light; I tried to capture this in the photos. There are also a few paint chips on the lower edge. The headstock and neck look great. Since the sanding, the bass has been played exclusively with flatwound strings.

Overall, it's a high-model versatile Japanese fretless from Ibanez's golden era.

Can be tested in Poznan (Poland!) but safe shipping anywhere in the EU is not a problem!

Private sell, so no warranty, return etc. Also - no trades.
