For sale is a true rarity, a bass from Japanese master luthiers, the Sugi NB5 (Night Breeze), virtually unavailable in Europe.
Sugi is a boutique studio that has been producing some of the most refined guitars in Japan for over two decades. Interesting fact: its founder was the head of R&D at the Fujigen factory for years and co-designed Steve Vai's legendary Ibanez JEM777.
The bass for sale was manufactured in 2022; I am its second owner – it came to Europe via Danny at BassJapanDirect. The current waiting time for a new Sugi is approximately 12 months, and the cost, after taxes, duties, etc., exceeds €5,000.
The bass is in excellent condition. It has always been stored in a Sugi semi-hardshell case and treated with due respect.
As for the sound, search YouTube for "HIGH END JAPANESE BASS GUITARS: Sugi Night Breed FM/Ash BASS DEMO and BASS REVIEW" and you'll see a recording of this exact bass.
In short, it's a passive jazz bass with a very modern sound and a 35-inch scale. Growly, very rich and articulate.
The reason for sale is quite prozaic - I'm an amateur bedroom player. I'd always wanted to own Sugi because I think it's the best design and quality in the world. Now, however, it's simply difficult to justify keeping such a high-end bass to amuse my neighbours. Though it's all with a very heavy heart... Just look at the pictures!
The bass is located in Poland, Poznań. Safe shipment to Europe included in the price.
