I'm selling a Japanese bass guitar from Yamaha, the RBX 450 model. Made in Japan, from the late 1980s.
It's a simple bass with a few interesting features. Firstly, the rosewood fretboard has a 14-radius, making it almost flat. The Jazz Bass-style neck (C-profile and 40mm at the nut) allows for very fast playing. The 22 frets and a strong cutaway also make playing in the higher positions easier.
Although it was a fairly entry-level model, Yamaha equipped the 450 with good Gotoh-made tuners and its classic, heavy decorated bridge found on higher models.
The basswood body makes the bass very light, weighing around 3.5 kg. The guitar is 34 inches long and full-scale.
The RBX is equipped with a powerful humbucker with coil splitting (found in the much more expensive MB series). However, one coil is currently not working – it may need rewiring or the wiring in the case needs to be adjusted. I don't have an electronics expert on hand, so I'm leaving it as is and lowering the price. Currently, the bass is running on single coil, which gives it a Precision 51-style sound, but with a bit more treble.
The bass has just been serviced by a luthier – the frets have been dressed, the nut has been adjusted, and the jack has been replaced. It's very comfortable, with a 1.6mm action at the 12th fret. The hardware and truss rod work perfectly. Visually, there's one large ding on the side, and other signs of normal wear.
Overall, this is a great bass for learning or as a backup. Its Japanese build will likely keep it playing for another few decades.
Can be played in Poznań (Poland!) or shipped safely withing the EU.
Private sale so no warranty, return etc. can be offered
