For sale: Japanese Yamaha from the RBX series - model MS-II from 1989. The instrument has a shortened scale (midscale, 32 inches), which, combined with a weight of 3.3 kg, makes it an exceptionally ergonomic tool. The colour is classic white, which over the years has turned into a nice creamy shade.
Early RBXs had a more dynamic shape with a strong body cutaway. This is great with 24 frets - you have access to every note.
The body is made of basswood, the neck is maple with a comfortable slim C profile. The neck finish is almost satin. Rosewood fingerboard. Frets in good condition, no sanding required. String action set low, about 1.8-2 mm above the 12th fret. The truss rod is fully functional and responds without resistance. The build quality is very good, as is typical for Yamahas made in Japan.
Years ago, the original Select by EMG pickups were replaced with a set of ‘full-fledged’ EMG PJs, which added dynamics and clarity to the bass. The electronics (2-band EQ) have been serviced and maintained. The bridge is a solid brass construction, and the original Gotohs ensure tuning stability. I aded Marshall-style knobs, which fit well with the aesthetics.
The bass sounds very hard, rock-like, with a strongly pronounced midrange. Despite the 32'' scale, the strings are tight and do not ‘float’ under your fingers. Visually, the guitar shows signs of use: there are quite a few dents on the bottom and back of the body, and there are also a few chips, but the finish on the front looks really nice. Technically, there are no issues. The only thing missing is the cover for the truss rod.
Can be played in Poznań, Poland (!), secure shipping will not be a problem. No exchanges.
Private sale so no warranty, return etc. can be offered.
