The Yamaha SVB-500 Flying Samurai was built around the year 2000 for the Japanese domestic market. It is a reissue of the original Yamaha SB-2 bass from 1966. I imported this one myself from Japan. This is a quite rare model, that has probably never been played as it’s in pristine condition. Even the protective plastic is still on the pickguard.
With its two single-coil pickups and volume/volume/tone controls, it’s essentially a passive Jazz Bass. The pickups are a bit stronger and richer sounding than those on a typical Fender Jazz Bass, giving the Yamaha more punch than you might expect. The neck feels comfortable and is fairly similar to a Jazz Bass. It is lightweight and balances better than you’d think, given its unusual body shape. The bass comes with the original (thin) Yamaha gigbag. Shipping within the EU is possible in a sturdy box.
