Bässe von Vintage - designed in the UK - made in China - Joe Doe „Lutetia“

Personal experience is not "stepping out of line", you received a lemon; no reason to keep quiet about it 👍 My last 2 Vintage basses were great basses in terms of construction and materials, pretty too 🙂

Only a problem to those who play naked and hang their bass below the groin

    P Bass 51er Pickup?

From my own experience of owning 13 single coil/51 P-basses and trying 20 different pickups. I liked the Duncan SCPB-1 though it had quite low output, I did not like the SCPB-2. The Roswell was fine, it and Duncan SCPB-3 share the same alnico pole pieces so have a similar attack; the Duncan...

Is that a good thing ? I know Leo started some tradition by using it for guitar bodies, but much of the Alder felled in the USA winds up as pallets for the transport industry or as chips/pellets. Andean Alder is used for matchsticks

Yet the original Wilkinson single coil remains 🙂 Something which does not surprise me, that is a very good pickup 8D

Harley Benton Home - Im Land der Billigheimer

@MrTommyGrowls Not only do I prefer the PB-50 neck over those from Fender, I also think ditching that high mass bridge for a more traditional style was a great idea 👌

    PEAVEY T-Serie - The unsung heroes home . . .

A good friend worked as an engineer for Peavey so had access to QC fails and returned items. On one of his T-40s he used an all maple Milestone neck. Ronnie had no concerns about the slight gaps in the pocket corners nor the narrower not size. That may be an avenue worth pursuing, the...

    PEAVEY T-Serie - The unsung heroes home . . .

Peavey used a very primitive truss rod system. It is just a bent length of metal with a nut and an anchor. This video shows the limitations of such a system. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mjhzefLg2jw

    PEAVEY T-Serie - The unsung heroes home . . .

Chip Todd recommended drilling a 12.5mm hole at the end of the heel then striking the truss rod at the headstock and driving it out through the hole. I've his email detailing the steps but it is saved on my PC which, as I've moved house in the last few days, is yet to be set up. It will be...

    Rickenfaker "Home"

Bruce Foxton from The Jam preferred a P bass so had a split coil installed at the neck position. Unfortunately I don't recall if this was in his Ric or the Ibanez copy.

It can add weight for little actual benefit. For some reason in the 70's we were obsessed with adding weight to our basses, anyone recall these:rofl: Which handily leads into @Cee asking "Does it make the bass sound or play better?" about reshaping a PB-50 peghead. The 4 inline peghead...

Harley Benton Home - Im Land der Billigheimer

@MrTommyGrowls The re-carve is quite simple and can be performed using basic hand tools, just a rasp/flat file, saw and sand paper. Link is for a "how to" I posted on Basschat some years back. https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/321909-pb-50-headstock-re-shape/

I long admired the single coil P-bass but many years passed before I actually played one, then I was hooked 🙂 Built most of these. This one came from Japan. Theses 2 are WIP. The Pgs require some alteration. This is my latest, walnut on mahogany body/panga panga neck.
